GOOD HEALTH: USES FOR ROSEMARY

The wonderful smell of rosemary is often associated with good food and great times. But it could just as easily be associated with good health. Rosemary contains substances that are useful for stimulating the immune system, increasing circulation, and improving digestion.

Rosemary also contains anti-inflammatory compounds that may make it useful for reducing the severity of asthma attacks. In addition, rosemary has been shown to increase the blood flow to the head and brain, improving concentration.


Benefits of Rosemary

Rosemary has received its fair share of scientific research and has now found its way onto the ingredient lists of cosmetics, especially for being a ‘clean label preservative.’ Working as a potent antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial, rosemary is in skin cleansers, toners, creams, soaps and facial masks, the possibilities seem endless.


DIY with Rosemary

A rosemary infusion is easily be made with olive oil and fresh rosemary. Simply remove stems from fresh rosemary and place into a clean jar (but do not pack too tightly) then top up with olive oil. Store in the fridge. Shelf life 3 months. Apply to skin or hair... or use it to dress your favourite salad!


For your skin

When massaged into the face, rosemary oil can help lightens dark spots and blemishes on the skin resulting in an improved skin complexion. The anti-inflammatory properties of rosemary extract help to reduce swelling and puffiness of the skin. It also helps to heal burns and soothe the skin.


For your hair

Rosemary oil can counter hair loss by stimulating blood circulation in the scalp, which, in turn, promotes hair growth. Its high nutritional value and anti-inflammatory properties make it an excellent ingredient for nourishing the hair follicles and soothing the scalp.


A tasty little recipe for you to try...

Mixed bean salad with garlic and rosemary oil - yummy!

Bring a pot of salted water to a boil and add your green beans for about 3 minutes, then add them to a bowl of ice water. (An Ice bath stops the veggies from cooking). Drain and set aside. Heat your rosemary infused olive oil in a pan on medium-low, and add the garlic for up to 30 seconds. Add the remaining ingredients together in a bowl, add the garlic rosemary oil, toss the salad, and enjoy!

Cannellini or Butter Beans

Garlic Cloves, minced

Rosemary Infused Extra Virgin Olive Oil

Fresh Parsley

Salt and pepper to taste

Pecorino Romano cheese (leave out if you are vegan)
